Carol Vorderman is famously good with numbers, which is probably why she is also pretty good with money – or certainly at earning shed loads of it.

The television celebrity with an IQ of 154 made her name and multiple millions from her 26 year stint as joint host and demon with the sums on Channel 4's cult daytime words and numbers show Countdown.

Reports vary about her salary levels in the Countdown heyday but suggest she earned between £900,000-£1.2m a year towards the end of her tenure, which came to an abrupt halt when the channel asked her to take a 90 per cent pay cut and gave her just 48 hours to decide whether she would accept.

Carol Vorderman is turning into quite the couture queen.

The TV presenter has been stepping out in one designer dress after the other in recent weeks, each one more eye-catching than the next.

And last night was no different as the 49-year-old turned heads in a daring low cut gown at the Marion Rose Ball in London.

The full-length dress, by Herve Leger combined the designer's trademark curve-hugging bandage with a sheer skirt.

The halter neck design left little to the imagination with a peephole cut-out and ample cleavage on display.

I must say it feels like only yesterday that I had the pleasure of welcoming guests to the very first Pride of Britain in 1999. I remember looking down from the stage at a youthful Tony Blair, an ageless Paul McCartney, a vibrant bunch of Spice Girls and a rising young footballer called Michael Owen.

How times change! Yet, more than a decade later, the magic of Pride of Britain grows stronger by the year.

Prince Charles says it's "unique" while former Prime Minister Gordon Brown called it "a highlight of the national calendar".

I'm not surprised it has become the biggest national event of its kind on British television, with around eight million viewers on ITV1 (more than watched either the Brits or the Bafta Awards). To me, it is the only awards show on TV that really matters. It's the most uplifting night of the year when we can all celebrate our country at its very best.
